As the weather gets colder, our skin begins to dry out, itch, and flake. There’s nothing I love more on a nice Fall day than getting in the tub with a good book and relaxing while my body gets all nice and toasty. I can practically feel all the stress melting away. But generally, after soaking in a bath, our skin dries out, even more so than it already has no thanks to the weather. Lucky for you, here are some great DIY moisturizing baths you can take that will help with that dry, itchy, or flaky skin:
1. Milk + Honey Bath – great for attaining that soft, supple skin due to the exfoliating nature of the lactic acid in the milk and the moisturizing/softening properties of honey
What you’ll need:
a. 1-2 cups of full fat (or powdered) milk
b. ½ cup honey
How to:
a. pour the milk and the honey under the running, warm water
b. swish around and hop in! Soak for 20 minutes
2. Red Wine or Champagne Bath – although not economically feasible, it’s great for any skin type – red wine is full of antioxidants and great for cleansing pores
How to:
a. just pour a glass (or two) of wine into your running tub and soak for 20 minutes!
3. Oatmeal Bath – great for dry and itchy skin, but also for acneic and oily skin
What you’ll need:
a. knee high nylon or thin sock without holes
b. ½ to 1 cup oatmeal (not instant)
How to:
a. place oatmeal inside nylon/sock and tie tightly at the top
b. place it in your warm bath water with you
c. squeeze it softly every so often to release the “oatmeal” water
d. before leaving, scrub entire body lightly with the nylon/sock
4. Apple Cider Vinegar - helps remove small patches of dry, itchy skin and helps prevents dry skin
How to:
a. add 2-3 cups of vinegar to your bath water
b. stir and soak for about 20-30 minutes
c. wash it off
