Sea Buckthorn Oil (Hipphophae rhamnoides) is a deep orange-reddish oil that is jam packed with a variety of essential fatty acids and antioxidants (Vitamin E + C).
In the last few years it has become a popular ingredient in skin care products as it is thought to moisturize skin, ease irritation, treat acne, and heal aging related skin damage.
Some research shows that products containing Sea Buckthorn appear to promote cell regeneration, therefore aiding in healing wounds and overall tissue, while natural bath + body producers add this oil to their sunscreens as it acts as a natural sunblock and tan-enhancer.
Mind you my personal bias on that from personal use with the oil is that the deep orange-reddish hue, due to the high levels of beta-carotene, that when penetrated in the skin gives you a deeper complexion, and that it is not that the oil itself reacts with the sun to create a tan. However that is based on my experience and personal testing with the oil not a qualified statement to make that claim.
